Don’t have the money…

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

I’ve been complaining on twitter and in real life all day that I should be down at Future of Web Apps in London right now.  I’ve been wanting to go for months but a few problems came about.

Firstly, I’ve figured out I’ve not got the money.

Secondly, I had nobody to go with.

The first one is the worst.  I checked my bank account recently and there seems to be a massive hole draining it.  Unfortunately, I’ve figured out that hole is food – and it’s hurting me a lot.  Also, the other hole which is half the size was my new server – which cost me and arm and a leg since I bought two years worth of hosting in advance.

Right now, that’s making me freak out.  I may have to bite into my savings more than I want to.

Of course there is a solution.  Get a job.

Last year I managed without a problem living off the money given to me and only lost a little money.  Well, that’s a lie. I lost a lot.

This year, there’s things I want to do – people I so very much want to meet.  So it seems I have the choice to make.

I could simply get a job or I could do what I attempted to do many months ago – which included setting myself as self employed and getting in £6-7k using my web design skills.  But that is a tricky slope.

I need a steady income.

I’m selling a few things – including my old iPods and some Xbox games.  This’ll sort some of my money woes before things get too bad.  But I’m on the search now for a job, any job, which may include me working in the one place I vouched I’d never venture… The call centre.

It’s a tricky time.  But everything is temporary.

Hang in there. Too bad you live on the other side of the pond. I could have fed you occasionally.

A long time ago, I remember saving pennies. Literally hiding them until I had a total of a dollar and ten cents. I was saving them to buy a new lipstick. I will never ever forget how fabulous I felt when I purchased it. Nowadays, I can go to a store and buy what I want. But it is never the same.
