Homestead

So I started the long and dutiful task of unpacking a few days ago. It’s only now that i realise how much useless stuff I actually own and never use.

I have two very large boxes to unpack which, at the current time, I am sure I will not need to bring with me next year.

My room, in which I spent much time after coming back from Egypt uncluttering and cleaning, was found in a state–thanks to my Dad’s powers of forgetting what I told him. “If you put anything else in my room while I’m away, I’ll kill you”. That, somehow, doesn’t apply to sails, televisions, wind generators as well as a variety of other furnishings.

Be this as a warning, students leaving for faraway cities for education. Don’t leave without somehow blocking your family from entering your room. A simple lock would suffice, or a death threat that you’re feeling capable of upholding. Otherwise, you’ll find it becoming a storage room that you’ll never, truly, get back.

Ahh yes, I remember it well… and will no doubt do the same to my two one they’ve flown the coop. ;)

I do think that was very unfair of your dad to pile all that stuff back into your room once you’d tidied it all up though.

At the same time… it is their house, they’re the ones who’ve paid the mortgage and bills, clothed and fed you, taken you on a trip to Egypt, no doubt helped out when you’ve needed it at uni…

Sure your dad has put stuff in your room, but it’s only stuff, and you’re lucky to have a place to go back to at all. I know a lot of people who have a lot less, and never get the opportunity to go to uni or college.

My parents moved house once I met J and had the first kidlet (or was about to, as I recollect), so I don’t have a room of my own anymore. Although I did get to nab some of the furniture they didn’t need anymore for myself! ;)
