A very hot Sunday.

I spent a bit of the day sorting out something I have very little control of - the garden.  It’s something that grows by itself, and since I spend nine months a year away from the little thing it doesn’t take much to make it look scruffy.  Unfortunately, it seems that the garden has become sentient, as the ivy now had direct control as to whether or not water gets into our garden shed.  And with the amount of rain we’ve got (it’s the wettest august since records began) we definitely had to get it sorted.

Hours were spent carting and moving ivy from it’s resting place on top of the shed’s roof and throwing it into the bucket.  The extent of misuse definitely showed after a carpet of moss an inch thick was partly the reason for so much weight getting onto the roof.  Let’s just say - it was not a pretty sight.  Even some of the branches had to be SAWED off after not getting seen to for that long.  In total we filled about 20 refuse bags full of garden waste and it will take several trips to the city refuse dump to get rid of it all.

We taught that garden.  Let’s just hope it’s learned it’s lesson once and for all.

Saturday 9: Just I Our Choices in Music

August 23rd, 2008 Saturday 9

Another quick Saturday 9 Quiz. Sorry for not being around, but enjoying the fun which was my fathers’ 58th birthday.

1. What was your first favorite song?

The Girl from Ipanema by Frank Sinatra.  I was on all the time for some reason in my house.

2. Who was your first favorite female singer?

I have to admit that Celine Dion was my first favorite female singer, mainly due to my mother’s music collection. I liked it so much that when I was re-doing a song at a karaoke night when I was 10 I made one woman cry from my performance.

3. Who was your first favorite male singer?

Probably Moby - as I mainly got into music after he became popular.  I still listen to some of his tracks, but not that often.

4. Who was your first favorite band?

Oasis.  They were popular at the time and everyone was listening to Wonderwall.

5. Who is your all time favorite band?

It has to be, without a doubt, a Glaswegian band called Amplifico.

6. Who is your all time favorite male singer?

Frank Sinatra.

7. Who is your all time favorite female singer?

Lily Allen is my favorite female signer right now, mainly because most of her tracks are pretty funny. She’s note exactly the most vocal, but still good.  That being said, I’m not too sure if I’ve got an all time favorite.

8. What is your all time favorite LP/CD album?

Daft Punk - Discovery

9. What was your first favorite radio station?

Wow. Take me back. It must have been BBC Radio 4 after about 10pm.  I stayed up late, listened to the radio and heard stories of people that could be considered either awesome or terrifying.

Not so hot anymore….

What happened to Avril?  I used to have such a crush on her…

Meh.  She’s just another creation of pop, and I’m just another creation of stella artois tonight. Also known as… drunk.. Yippee.  Enjoy this while I’m gone.

I’m not singing in the rain…

I almost forgot about today’s blog post for a couple of reasons. First, my mum was admitted to hospital again for C Deficile and I’ve spent most of the day figuring things out in the house.  The other reason, I’ve had a couple of drinks and almost fell asleep in the living room. It happens.

I’ve spent half of the day inside, and whenever I haven’t been under my roof - the heavens have opened and decided to force an endless stream of water into my head.  Definitely NOT fun.

I’m in a rush tonight, sorting out various things, basically being a *hot* commodity - but I haven’t had the time to write something intriguing…

But if there’s one thing I can talk about, it’s the ‘great shave’.  I told parental unit #1 about it and he thinks it’s a bad idea.  Wow, a parent telling me something new isn’t good to do when it’s against the norms.  What a hoot.

I can tell you one thing - it’s going to happen. I’m just sorting out the date.  Now, shall I do it soon - so if it isn’t good I can grow it out a little in the 24 days I have left till I move to Dundee, or do it when I get back to avoid the parental units?

Hmm…

Review: Hellboy II

August 20th, 2008 General, Reviews

Hellboy 2 PosterI spent the better part of my day watching Hellboy II today.  The original Hellboy was something I really enjoyed. This one… not so much.

“The mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so as Hellboy and his team returns they must save the world from the rebellious creatures. Now, as the creatures who inhabit the spiritual realm gear-up for an all out attack on the human plane, the only one capable of saving the Earth is a tough-talking hellspawn rejected by both worlds.”

Written by Anthony Pereyra {hypersonic91@yahoo.com}

I guess if one thing worked in this movie it would be the trailer - which managed to make me excited about getting to see this movie.  The title may have worked too - if it had anything to do with the movie whatsoever.  If you didn’t know that the ‘Golden Army’ would make an appearance, then you didn’t read the title.  If you read the title, you’d wonder where the ‘Golden Army’ didn’t take such a freakin’ precidence in the movie.

Not only that, but the characters didn’t seem to have the depth they did last time.  Hellboy seems to have become shallow, the head Agent a little needy and dare I need talk about any of the other characters… Have you ever heard of a wooden cast?  Yep.

I really, really, wanted it to be good.  But after hearing Zen Elements’ reaction I made sure I didn’t hype myself on this movie.  It still didn’t help.

4/10.

The heat, and sweat, on my brow.

Recently, I took nine days off from my local gym, mainly because I was busy.  While this wouldn’t normally have any direct problem (apart from wasting me a load of money) I figured out a few minor inconviences that I didn’t expect.

Firstly, let’s have a look at my history. I never did sports and wasn’t exactly accepted in school, so I didn’t get much of this mystical exercise.  It’s only recently I’ve been pushing myself to loose some weight, even though I’m not too plump.  It’s more for personal than physical.

This is probably why I didn’t expect what happened. As soon as I stopped the running, cyclying, cross-training and the rest of the exercise I was getting every twenty-four hours — I started to… miss it.  It felt that it was the thing that was taking my stress down, making me feel better overall and making me feel more confident in myself (if not hot [ewww - I had to connect it SOMEWHERE]).

I’ve been addicted to a few things in my life - caffeine (from a young age), tv, computers and a load of other things from my past… I never expected to be addicted to exercise!

Damn adrenaline junkies.  But sheesh, it does feel good.

Taggable

August 18th, 2008 General, Life, Lists

Looks like something happened the other day. Basically, Scriber’s Web has decided to probe my life and tagged me.

The Rules:

  1. Link the person who tagged you.
  2. Mention the rules on your blog.
  3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks you possess.
  4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.
  5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.

The List:

  1. I spend a good couple of hours each day procrastinating.  When I need to go out and do something I’ll stop myself and surf the net for 20 minutes.  It’s even worse when I go to put my socks on - I often stop and just zone out after putting on one sock only to continue when a family member notices and questions me in confusion.
  2. It takes a long time for me to realise that someone is hitting on me because I never expect anyone to be interested in me that way.  I’ve only noticed afterwards when friends tell me later on what just happened.  Hell, one girl spent about 2 weeks trying and none of my friends dared to tell me.  The one day she approached me I was confused and only tried to call her after it happened, when she returned home. The only problem - I used my geeky ways to get the phone number and probably freaked her out because of it. Meh.
  3. I am terrible at not finishing things when I don’t have deadlines.  Whenever I start my own projects I manage to screw them up.  I have about 4 projects in the works in which some are reaching a year old - with only preliminary ideas written up.  So, I’ve set myself a deadline that I’ll hopefully finish secret projects #2-5 in 27 days.
  4. I have a pretty accurate body clock.  This comes in handy during late nights when I can’t find or don’t want to set an alarm.  I look at the clock, tell myself when I want to be woken up, and I wake up naturally almost every time.  However, when the alarm is set and my body knows when I need to get up, not when I want to be, it’ll keep me sleeping until the last possible minute.
  5. I am excellent at beginner’s luck.  I’ve had so many sucesses that only occured the first time - such as playing games (Hole in One when I played Tiger Woods 2006 for example), starting new hobbies and well… relationships.  Now I just need to be good at repeating my sucesses then I’m set for life!
  6. I unconciously tap whatever song I’m listening to whenever I’m on the move.  Some people think I’m crazy when i do it, but it’s something I’ve just done for most of my life. (Alongside remembering a song by singing it - that was sooo embarrasing when I moved to high school).

So, now I have to figure out who I’m going to tag with this wonderful thing. Well, first i’m going to be honest with you all - while i’ve been blogging for over a year and a half I haven’t really ‘connected’.  Not to say I haven’t read other people’s blogs, but it’s only recently I’ve been actively communicating between different bloggers.  So, this is going to be a short-ish list.

I’ll get back to you on that. It’s a little late here in Scotland and after a long day (and an unexpected shopping trip) I’m too tired to actually think of people’s names…  Don’t worry, I’ll put them in tomorrow’s blog post.

Thinking about the Great Shave.

August 17th, 2008 General, Life, Lists, Ramblings, Video

There’s something wrong with the embedding of the video right now, so if you could make your way to this page to watch it, that’d be great…

I seem to get this notion into my head every two or so months after my hair starts getting a little long and I have to consider what the hell I want to do about it.  This time I haven’t even managed to reach a month.

I don’t really understand why it’s so socially unacceptable. I mean I know it’s been connected to the whole idea of neo-nazism and biker gangs and the rest, and I’ll have nothing to do with those kinda things.  I like the idea for it’s religious connotations.  Ok, some of the people reading will know I’m not religious but it makes a good point.  In some eastern religions people do this in time of need as a sacrifice.  But it’s not only that, it’s also sacrificing parts of your identity for a greater cause.

Yes - I have thoughts, yet again, to shave my very large head (and I mean… large… meh, we’ll get into that another day).

I have a few reasons that I’m thinking of doing this:-

  • It’s cheap.
  • It’s convinent.
  • It’s a time saver.
  • It’s a change from the hairstyle I’ve had for over 10 years.
  • It’s a lesson.
  • I’ve always wanted to know what it would look like.
  • It’ll stop this gorram dandruff I’ve got right now that no dandruff shampoo seems to be able to fix.
  • It saves me feeling uncomfortable in a barbers trying to make small talk.
  • It’ll save me feeling uncomfortable when, each time I visit the barbers, they repeat how thick my hair is.
  • It’ll stop me doing this really annyoing habit of picking out my hair when I’m bored.
  • I’m moving back to Dundee in September.  If I do it then, my parents won’t know for over a month - in which I can decide if I like it… or not (and by then I’ll have an excuse made up if I don’t.)
  • I want to wear a baseball cap without thinking about the hair underneath.
  • I love the feel of short hair when I get my hair cut, especially the ultra-short bits at the back of the neck.
  • I bet some people will think it’s hot to be so different and have the nerve to do it.
  • Since I won’t have hair to express my personality, it’ll help me reach out more and show people what I’m really like.

So. A few reasons.

But I wasn’t going to jump in the pool without doing the research - and my research involves photoshop… maybe…

I don’t think I look too bad in this pic - it’s not perfect, but it works and is definitely better than the garish hair I’m suffering right now…

So, what do you think?

Saturday 9: Children and and Ages of Bloggers

3

August 16th, 2008 General, Life, Saturday 9

I thought it’d be time to try something a little interesting, and if you didn’t get it by the name of the post you’ll get it now. Saturday 9 is a commitment to answer 9 questions posted every Saturday on the Saturday9 Blog. Easy enough.

This weeks’ about Children and Ages of Bloggers.

1. Do you worry about your next birthday?

Well, my next birthday I’m turning twenty. That’s two decades.  Like… old.  After this I’ll have to realise I’m not a kid anymore and actually care about my finances. I’m not looking forward to that.
2. Have you ever lied about your age in the recent past? If yes why?

I don’t really think of nineteen to be an embarrassing age so, nope.  I’ve got more interesting things to lie about. :)

3. Have you ever lied about your age when you were young? If yes why?
When I was 15 I was smart enough to go to the bar with a whole load of 20 year olds after an art website meetup.  Seems like they even thought I was eighteen, so hell, it worked didn’t it? (It did. Cider FTW.)
4. How much older have you been a person that you were romantically involved?

Probably less than 6 months, but that wasn’t exactly ‘romantic’ when my first girlfriend was when I was in Primary 4 (I was nine, but we got married almost every day).

5. How much younger have you been a person that you were romantically involved?

I wouldn’t technically call it ‘romantically involved’ at the moment - but the person I’m closest to right now it would be… 19 days.

6. Have you ever been consider a sibling, rather than parent of your child?

‘Your’ child?  Has someone not told me something?

7. If you have had children, did you factor in age when deciding to have a sibling?

Again, pictures or it didn’t happen.

8. If you have not had children, are you happy with your choice and/or fate?

I think i’ve got a while to think about it, but I’d definitely consider it.

9. Do your siblings have kids? Are you close to them? Their ages?

My sister is 18, so if she did have a kid right now I think I’d have to have words with her.  Basically four. Who did this? Where did they live?  Do we have a gun?  Can all of the CSI I’ve watched stop me getting caught?

Hopefully I won’t forget about this next week, but I’ll see you all tomorrow for another fun adventure into me (and it’s all Suchitra’s fault).

Keeping myself in the social bandwagon…

My Face Your Manga AvatarSo, it seems sites like twitter and plurk have seen a rise in a new hot (yes, I’m still doing NaBloPoMo in one form or another) avatar site called Face Your Manga.  Unfortunately, somehow I managed to throw myself at it too.

This is not the first website to try and do this.  Yahoo created avatars and other websites have tried to make you pay for this.  They work, but aren’t really portable for use in other sites - while this one simply gives you a .jpg file that can be resized and edited for use on any website.

It’s not bad at customisation either! While almost everyone I see on twitter are using these new avatars I haven’t seen one that looks at any way like me.  This is awesome, as they have managed to give you enough options to make it almost truly you.

You can make your own avatar at Face Your Manga and if you want to keep with the bandwagon, try it out!

(p.s. Scriber’s Web - The tagging is coming…)
